Some answers.

WTF does Califuegos mean?
Califuegos is an English-Spanish mashup that means California fires. When the band formed in 2010, California was experiencing a ton of wildfires–some natural, others started by pyro-lunatics. The idea that our great state was burning felt worthy of commentary. Years later, who knew that California fires would continue to be such a big problem. In spite of our name, we love where we live and would prefer a California that was not on fire.

What genre?
Our original mission, if you will, was to play music that sits squarely on the California border. We play regional music that borrows from So-Cal Surf, Latin, Alt-Country, and Rock. Or more simply put, Alternative Mexi-Americana. Listen here.

Do you play originals?
Yes, in fact we have two albums and one single available on all music streaming services. Creating original material is always a work in progress–we’re working on a new album now! When we play live, we often mix our originals with covers.

How often do you play and how can we book your band?
We like to play out a couple times a month. If you’d like Califuegos to play your venue or private party, please drop us a note here.

Does the band support any special causes?
Yes. We mainly contribute to local schools, organizations, and an occasional local political candidate. To date, we’ve donated a third of our total band income to these causes. Additionally we have donated all proceeds plus matching funds from our single Inmagrantes to the ACLU. You can hear Inmagrantes here.

What is wetter a dog’s tongue or a cat’s?
We’re not entirely sure, but our money is on a dog’s.
